May 21 Sun Arrive Naples
Arrive Naples. Meet your assistant and driver holding “ROMAN ROADS - TUTKU” sign and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight in Naples. (D)

May 22 Mon Naples – Herculaneum – Cuma – Pozzuoli
In the morning we will visit the National Archeological Museum of Naples, followed by the ancient city of Herculaneum (paved street). In the afternoon we will move to Pozzuoli area.Visit the Acropolis of Cuma. Stopover for picture (if traffic permits) at the Arco Felice. Proceed for Pozzuoli for dinner and overnight. (B,D)

May 23 Tue Pozzuoli
We will begin the day following Paul from the ancient port of Puteoli. Visit the Temple of Serapide (Macellum), Rione Terra, the temple of Augustus, converted into a Christian cathedral. Lunch at the restaurant Villa Elvira that has some earlyChristian tombs visible inside.Walk (about 3km) on the Via S. Vito by the necropolis, then on the Via Celle on the ancient pavement, past the Necropolis and end the tour at the Flavian Amphitheatre. Dinner and overnight in Pozzuoli area. (B,D)

May 24 Wed Baia – Bacoli
We will start the day visiting Bacoli: the Misenum (Piscina Mirabilis), making a part of the Aqua Augusta tunnels. Proceed for the archeological park of the Roman Baths overlooking the Gulf of Baia: Temples of Mercury, Venus and Diana, the archeological museum of the Castle di Baia. The day tour ends at the Underwater archeological Museum Baia Sommersa. Return to Pozzuoli. Dinner and overnight in Pozzuoli area. (B,D)

May 25 Thur Quarto – Capua – Caserta
We drive via Montagna Spaccata to Quarto. Stop at Quarto Mansio. Walk* (above 5km) to Cupa Orlando. Drive to Capua Santa Maria Vetere. Visit the archeological park, the amphitheater, Mithraeum, museum, monumental tombs and the Hadrian Arch. Dinner and overnight in Caserta / Capua area. (B,D) *This is not a standard tourist route. There are long distances without sidewalk. That part of the itinerary is at your own responsibility.

May 26 Fri Mondragone – Minturno
Drive to Mondragone, passing Baia Felice Cellole (across the Falernian Plain to Sineussa for 2 sections of Via Appia). See its aqueduct. Drive to Minturnae. Visit the archeological park and the acqueduct (in Via Metello Macedonico 150). Dinner and overnight in Formia. (B,D)

May 27 Sat Formia – Terracina
Visit the Archeolofical Museum of Formia, the Tomb of Cicero* and Viaduct del Pontone. Drive to Itri, Via Appia Antica. Walk 1,5km (Ingresso percorso Via AA, Ponte del Vicerè, Fortino S. Andrea) and return. Drive to Fondi for lunch. Proceed to Terracina. Visit Villa Salvini*. Stopover at Porta Albina** (Via della Torre Gregoriana). Dinner and overnight in Terracina. (B,D) *It’s a subject to special permit.

May 28 Sun Terracina – Borgo Faiti
Drive to visit the Temple of Anxur. Then visit the Emilian Forum and the Duomo of Terracina stands on the podium of the Temple dedicated to Roma and Augustus, the Roman Gate. Drive* to Str. Ponte Alto, proceed through Pontine marsh with stops at Mesa Pontina, Via Appia Antica km 85,4 (there is no sidewalk there, it’s too dangerous to walk as a group of people. Bus will pass slowly) and in Borgo Faiti (ForoAppio). Dinner and overnight in Borgo Faiti. (B,D)

May 29 Mon Castel Gandolfo
We will follow the Via Appia as it turns north, passing through the Tor Tre Ponti with its Tripontine Bridge, and Three Taverns, where Christians from Rome came out to meet Paul. Three Taverns site is close to visitors. If possible, we’ll stop for photo, otherwise the bus will pass slowly permitting to do some pictures. We will then stop at Scuola Sole Luna, Via dei 5 Archi 161 – Velletri, and then in Via Castello di San Gennaro (SP95a) – Genzano di Roma. Continue through Aricia. Walk Via Appia Antica (400m). Stops at the Ponte di Ariccia (viaduct) and Tomb of Horatii and Curiatii (Borgo Garibaldi, 5 – Albano Laziale.) It’s close for visitors, but it’s visible from outside. If time permits, visit the Museum of Roman Ships in Nemi. Dinner and overnight in Castel Gandolfo. (B,D)

May 30 Tue Via Appia Antica to Rome
Drive to Frattocchie. Coffee break at the McDonald’s, Via Appia Nuova km19.750 [see the Roman road underneath]. Drive (15 min) to the beginning of the pedestrian area of the Appia Antica (41.834456, 12.540536) Via Erode Attico, 56. Walk (approx. 1 hrs) till the Appia Antica Caffè (actually close). Walk (10 min) to the to the Circus of Maxentius. Continua walk (20 min) to the Catacombs of St. Sebastian for visiting. Stop at the church Quo Vadis. Pass by Castro Pretorium. Dinner andovernight in Rome. (B,D)

May 31 Wed Rome
Drive near to Porta San Sebastiano. Walk (1,3km) from there to (Park of Porta Capena), Porta Metronia and the Basilica of S. Stefano Rotondo. Transfer to the Church San Paolo allaRegola, walk to visit the Pantheon, followed by the Mausoleum of Augustus and Museum of Ara Pacis. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner andovernight in Rome. (B,D)

June 1 Thur Rome
On our last day in Rome our bus will take us on a morning tour of early Christian sites. First, we will trace the final days of St. Paul, visitingthe church of Tre Fontane and the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls where he was purportedly executed and buried. After lunch we are free for individual exploration. Dinner and overnight in Rome. (B,D)

June 2 Fri Fly Home
Breakfast at your hotel and check-out. Transfer to the Fiumicino Airport and depart for home. (B)

Dr. Mark Wilson is the founder and director of the Asia Minor Research Center in Antalya, Turkey, a country in which he and his wife Dindy have lived since 2004. He received a D.Litt. et Phil. from the University of South Africa (Pretoria) where he serves as a Research Fellow in Biblical Archaeology. He is a Visiting Professor of Early Christianity at Regent University and also Professor Extraordinary Discipline Group Old & New Testament at Stellenbosch University. Mark regularly leads study trips for the Biblical Archaeology Society to Turkey, Cyprus, and Greece. He also blogs periodically for Bible History Daily. He is the author and editor of numerous books, articles, and reviews including Biblical Turkey: A Guide to the Jewish and Christian Sites of Asia Minor. His particular research interest is the ancient Jewish communities, Roman roads, and Biblical routes in Turkey. Mark has been married to Dindy for thirty-nine years; they have four adult children, four grandsons and four granddaughters.
